Reports to: The Board of Directors (the “Board”)

CASA of Baltimore is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization committed to serving abused and neglected children by representing their voices in the Baltimore City court system and advocating for their best interest in the judicial, educational, medical and social service communities so that every child can have a safe and permanent home and the opportunity to thrive. 

CASA of Baltimore is seeking an energetic, team-oriented, passionate Executive Director with a proven track record in the nonprofit community to strengthen the sustainability of our nonprofit organization. CASA of Baltimore's Executive Director, will have a range of duties, including the following:

•    Program Development & Creative Oversight: Work with the staff to develop new opportunities, oversee volunteer recruitment and consult on development of promotional material.

•    Operations & Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Board in executing strategic planning process and lead implementation of operational plan.

•    Financial Acumen: Remain compliant with approved budgets, non-profit regulation, and tax related matters. 

•    Fundraising: Collaborate with the Board to raise funds to meet budgetary needs in support of all organizational programming.

•    Leadership & Management: Oversee and manage the organization and staff. 

•    Complex Stakeholder Management: Create and nurture relationships within the courts (e.g., Judges and Attorneys) and with external stakeholders (e.g., Board, Large Donors, Legislators, etc.) to drive the success of the organization. 

 

Program Development & Creative Oversight Specifics:

·       Work with the Board and staff to develop and cultivate new prospects for community outreach and volunteer recruitment in the greater Baltimore area.

·       Ensure annual volunteer recruitment and budget goals are met each year.

·       Assist the volunteer recruitment leader with managing and developing an annual strategy to recruit new volunteers to serve as CASA advocates. 

·       Oversee the design of branded promotional material for all organization programs.

Operations and Strategic Planning Specifics:

·       Collaborate with the Board to develop long-term objectives for (1) ensuring CASA of Baltimore’s financial stability, (2) enhancing the capacity and capabilities of its staff, (3) building strategic partnerships, and (4) strengthening Board member engagement.

·       Finalize and lead the implementation of CASA of Baltimore’s operational plan developed by the Board. 

Financial Acumen Specifics:

·       Work with Board to approve budget annually and provide regular updates against budget projections

·       Align cash planning with reserve policy and build financial reserve for future use

·       Ensure compliance with non-profit regulations to maintain 501c3 status and complete all regular filings and confirm completion with the Board

·       Ensure compliance with tax-related filings including Form 941 and Form 990 to name a few and confirm completed with the Board

Fundraising Specifics:

·       Lead all development activities including grant writing, the cultivation and solicitation of individual donors, foundations, corporations and government sources.

·       Grow individual donor base, manage annual giving campaign, and cultivate major gifts.

·       Manage Board fundraising capacity.

·       The Executive Director works with the Board on a sponsorship plan for the annual benefit event, Art of Caring, as well as other events.

·       Write specialized letters of inquiry, funding proposals, and sponsorship packages.

·       Maintain recording, tracking and reporting systems to monitor fundraising activities.

·       Represent the organization at events (after traditional business hours when necessary) in the business and nonprofit communities and attend functions to expand donor base and visibility.

Leadership & Management Specifics

·       Provide leadership, direction, motivation, and management of staff

·       Oversee the annual operating budget and collaborate with the board and staff to prudently manage the organization's resources within budget guidelines.

·       Manage marketing and public relations efforts, including the writing and distribution of press releases and serve as primary media contact.

·       Prepare for Board Meetings collaborating with committees to manage the affairs of the organization. 

·       Engage with National and State CASA, DSS and local nonprofits, remain informed of nonprofit trends.

Complex Stakeholder Management Specifics:

·       Advocate on behalf of CASA of Baltimore with Department of Social Services (“DSS”), Baltimore City Juvenile Court, public sector officials, potential donors and other key stakeholders.

·       Develop relationships with various Judges and Attorneys within Family Law, increasing awareness and value of Baltimore CASA

·       Develop relationships with State and Federal Legislators, City Council, and other political members to increase awareness and secure funding for the organization

·       Manage Donor relationships 

 

Qualifications:

The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to the CASA of Baltimore mission. The successful candidate will have proven leadership and a successful track record in fundraising. Other qualities include:

•       Bachelor's degree required.

•       5+ years management experience.

•       Demonstrated success in revenue generation, such as securing significant gifts from foundations and corporations, as well as individual donors for a nonprofit organization

•       Financially savvy with knowledge of budget development.

•       Strong fiscal management experience with earned income and fundraising efforts. 

•       Experience managing staff, consultants, providers, outsourced services, volunteers and external stakeholders.

•       Strong technological skills.

•       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•       Ability to self-direct and prioritize competing goals and initiate process improvements.

Helpful, not required:

·       Established network of Baltimore city business and nonprofit leaders (established and emerging).

·       Experience and/or knowledge of juvenile court, Department of Social Services and foster care systems.

·       Strong press contacts, and a proven track record of garnering publicity for foster children.  

·       Post Graduate degree in relevant field

Compensation:

The position offers a competitive salary ($90,000-110,000) and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. The board is open to adjusting compensation as the financial position of the organization strengthens through development.
